Review of Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

The Shadow and Bone Trilogy: Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, Ruin and Rising by [Bardugo, Leigh]

Hey, everyone! It’s tuesday! Time for a review! ๐Ÿ˜€ Have any of you heard of a little author namedo Leigh Bardugo? ;D if you’re into Young Adult fiction, I think you would have. She’s a super big name in the YA fantasy scene.

And I love her work! I started with the Six of Crows series, and now I’ve finally gotten around to reading/listening to the original trilogy, the one that introduces us to the Grisha Verse. ๐Ÿ˜€ ‘

and it’s amazing. here’s a blurb for the series.

In a lavish world where darkness reigns and science collides with superstition, Alina Starkov has the power to save her countryโ€ฆbut it comes with a price in The Grisha Trilogy by New York Times-bestselling author Leigh Bardugo.

So, basically, the story starts off with our main gal Alina discovering she has special powers that can save her people. The Darkling, one of the most powerful Grisha (basically magicians, but don’t call them that!) takes her off to learn to control her powers. he’s dark and mysterious, and handsome (of course) and he tells her how together, they’re going to save the world!

And she believes him.

You know, this series starts of a bit basic. Its a Tale of rags to riches as she’s brought to basically a magic school to learn to control her powers. (Reminds me a bit of Harry Potter. lol. it’s a great basic plot, orphanage kid going to magic school. we all know it! embrace it!)

then things get super serious as she learns the truth of the Darkling. No, I’m not telling you! Spoilers are bad! ๐Ÿ˜€

Anyway! So, Alina goes on the run and that’s where the real crazy stuff begins. ๐Ÿ˜€

the series morphs into a full on epic fantasy as the books progress, and it’s great. the magic system is complex and interesting. the world is well fleshed out, with lots of different countries and cultures, there are lots of amazing characters.

My favorite side characters are the Prince and David. And book three is my favorite novel. ๐Ÿ˜€ I LOVED seeing Alina develop into such a good leader. ๐Ÿ˜€ And the action scenes in there are some of the best of the series.

I listened to the series on audiobook. Which I highly recommend. I LOVE audiobooks. I can read while I’m at the gym or cleaning or driving. Listening to books adds such a great depth to the story. And helps me learn how to pronounce the characters’ names. ๐Ÿ˜€ I always have trouble figuring out how you should say them.

The narrator does amazing voices for each of the characters. I really loved Zoya’s voice and the Priests was great.

Over all rating for the series? 5 stars! ๐Ÿ˜€ if you like young adult, epic fantasy, you should totally give this a try!

Fun side fact! I went to a book festival a couple years ago, and I got the chance to meet the author. ๐Ÿ˜€ I had to stand it line for ever, and almost didn’t get to say hello, but I did. and it was great. I got books signed and got to tell her how much I loved her Six of Crows books. And I even got this gorgeous little picture of one of the main characters. ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for reading! โค I’ll be back tomorrow with a Wednesday Writing Update Post! ๐Ÿ˜€

Happy Reading, Everyone! Love, Lennie! โค
