Tuesday Review!

A Slave’s Heart by Mahogany SilverRain

Hi, My readers! πŸ˜€ hope everyone is having some super fun bookish adventures. πŸ˜€ I have the day off from my two real jobs (writing is a job too, I just don’t get enough $ to do it full time. Some day!) So, I’ve been working on my writing, sharing some links on Facebook (basically the only Promotion I can afford right now), and now I’m doing so blogging.

lol. clearly, right?

Anyway! I took a break and read one of this week’s short stories selections. I picked A Slave’s heart, because It sounded really fun, and it was short. I love me some shorts. πŸ˜€

Captain William James is a private slave trader from Britain. He has transported many Africans from the West African coastline to work in the sugar plantations of Barbados and Jamaica. He meets Sirene, a West African priestess of Oshun whose drum walk (dance) calls to him one cool summer night. He is enchanted by her beauty and strength as he watches her dance, but can she capture his heart and free his mind of ignorance and prejudice against her people?Β

my rating? 3.5 stars! here’s my rating. πŸ˜€ I also shared a quick little review of it over on my Goodreads page. πŸ˜€

πŸ˜€ I liked the story. It was good! Well written and interesting. πŸ˜€Β The details for the clothing were really nice. And the waterfall scene were great! ❀

I just wish it had been longer! It was really good as it was, don’t get me wrong. I just would have loved more time to get to know the characters, setting, and culture. And I’d have loved to have seen more conflict, to have seen our two lovers grow closer over time.Β

Still, it was fun! πŸ˜€ I definitely recommend it if you like short stories and historical and interracial romance stories. πŸ˜€

If Ms. SilverRain ever decided to do a longer, more detailed version of this, I would SO be down for it! hint, hint! ❀ it’d make SUCH a great novel! especially if there was a paperback version of it. I adore physical books! ❀

Thanks for reading guys! be sure to check this one out if your a romance fan. I am! (funny considering how messed up some of my own writing is. Lol. I love the screaming Disturbed my sister/editor so bad, she refused to go into a pet store with me. lol.)

Be sure and join me tomorrow for a writing update post! πŸ˜€ Happy Reading, everyone! Love, Lennie! ❀

Review For “Writing A Book A Week”

Writing a Book a Week by Alex Foster

In between my binge listen of the “Mountain Man” series, I picked this up. My dream is to write as a full-time job and make a decent living with it. I figured picking this up couldn’t hurt. especially since it seems that most indie authors need to produce a lot to get up a decent fanbase. :/ I got a long road ahead!

(I’m looking at you, Amy Cross! When I’m talking about producing a lot! over 100 books!)

It actually had some decent advice, so I’m glad I picked it up. It was well written, simplistic and easy to understand. I liked it.

I’m still not sure if I could actually write a long book in a week. Maybe a short novella if I really focus. But it’d definitely need a few rounds of editing afterward! /

This short little book has a lot of good advice I can take away from it. So that’s good. πŸ˜€ I can totally use the advice on outlining and focusing.

Recommended for all writers. Even if you just glance over it, it might help you. πŸ˜€

Happy Reading!

A Final Note!

I have a few days off of both of my jobs coming up. So, I’m think I’m going to hole up in my apartment like a little literary squirrel riding out the winter. I want to try and work on the second book in the “Spirit Finders Files.” I want to try out the advice in this book, see if it can really work. πŸ˜€ who knows. maybe I’ll get a decent first draft out of it.

Next tuesday’s blog post will be an update on my writing experiment. I’ll let you guys know how it went. Lol. Maybe I’ve unlocked the secret to self-publishing success in a random little free Kindle book.

Anyway! Happy Reading! Join me Thursday for another blog post. it’ll probably be a few reviews of the zombie books i’ve been reading. πŸ˜€

Review of Friends: 3 stars!

Friends (A Short Story)

Friends (A Short Story)

byΒ Mauro Neaus

What appears to be a man that loves life, his job and seems to have no real problem of his own, nor any problem with anybody turns out to take a grim turn.

I don’t have any big updates on my writings today, so I figured I would share another review of a book I’ve read recently. this one is Friends. A really short horror story. πŸ˜€ my kinda thing.

It was a little rough. I did notice a couple of awkward sentences. And maybe a typo or two, but nothing major. Just the standard little errors you see in a lot of self-published stories. πŸ˜€ (the book gods know, my own books have their own share of typos and errors.)

I didn’t find the errors annoying though. And it didn’t take anything away from the tale. Because the story itself was enjoyable. The author really shows some real promise!

here’s my thoughts I left in a review over on Goodreads.com as soon as I finished the novel last night. πŸ˜€

Short but good!

Short, interesting, and highly disturbing. I really liked this. As a writer & lover of short horror stories, I enjoyed this. 😈 the creep factor builds subtly, then really packs a punch there at the end.

I want a sequel though! I want to find out what happens to the main character and his friends.Β

First Review For My Blog! :D

pretty cover, huh? πŸ˜€ This is a fantasy novel, by my Goodreads friend, Kat. πŸ˜€ it was awesome, so I figured I’d share my review here on my blog as well as over on Goodreads and Amazon.

Here it is! πŸ˜€ 4 stars is my rating! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Creative and beautifully written! 😁 (& The cover is awesome!) This was a really good book & I very much enjoyed it. I liked the main character, the world the author created, but mostly I loved the writing! It was just so pretty. Wish I could write like that!

Highly recommended for fans of fantasy.

Happy Reading, Everyone! πŸ˜€
