Free Book Friday!

Check it out! I’m making blog post! I am giving myself adulting points for the day. ๐Ÿ˜€ Hello! How is everyone! I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m good. And I’m here bringing back the Free Book Friday post. Where I share neat sounding Free books I found while browsing amazon. ๐Ÿ™‚

You know, because I like going down the rabbit hole of Amazon’s bookstore instead of actually writing. Though I did really good yesterday. I think I worked for about three and a half to four hours. That’s really good for me, and I feel like I got a lot done. Proud of me! โค I’m shooting for longer today. Maybe six hours total! โค

So! I bet you’re wondering which cool books I found for ya’ll? ๐Ÿ˜€

Well, I have three today. ๐Ÿ˜€ My first choice is….

Five Tales of Horror and Suspense by CD Wilsher

Cover goals right there. Though, I think I am doing really well with my own. I mean, there’s only so much I can do with a free Photoshop app and my own limited knowledge. But I’m doing okay!

anyway! Blurb:

Five Tales of Horror and Suspense. A young man finds out from a fortune teller that thereโ€™s always a price to be paid. A rich man doesnโ€™t quite have the 25th high school reunion experience he expected. Beware of strangers on a train. A dog may not be manโ€™s best friend. An aging hitman takes a trip down memory lane.

The whole book is only 67 pages too, so it’s perfect if you’re like me and a fan of little books.

Book #2 is…

Labor Day: A Psychological Suspense Short Story of Horror, Ribs and Road Rage

Sometimes a Good BBQ Can Kill You

Have you ever had something precious taken from you by circumstances, unexpected situations, or careless or uncaring people?

Who hasnโ€™t had something over which they secretly obsessed?

Jerry Ketchins lives for one day every year: Labor Day. This day, however, will test his mettle. Heโ€™s a man fast approaching the edge of his own sanity but will soon find himself with his toes hanging over the precipice that separates light from darkness.

Itโ€™s not clear to Jerry now, but a simple incident on the road will determine his fateโ€ฆ forever.

Bonus! This 40 page book comes in a teeny tiny paperback for only $5.95! I love tiny paperbacks! So cute!

And my third and final pick of the day is a full length novel:

The Harvest: Scary Supernatural Horror with Monsters (The Bell Witch Series Book 1)ย

Also cover goals. ๐Ÿ™‚

Amid the sweet sounds of a music box, their darkest fears will haunt themโ€ฆ

In Black River, Tennessee, everyone knows the legend of the Bell Witchโ€ฆ and the alleged curse that hangs like a dark shroud over the town. To some, it is just a local tall tale. But to others, it is terrifyingly real.

For centuries, four families have been forced into the ritualistic tradition of sacrifice and terror. Every year, a member of each family stumbles upon an antique music box they need to lock before the time is up. And a horrible fate awaits them once the boxes open.

Trapped in the witchโ€™s sadistic game, the familiesโ€™ young offspring are forced to journey into the dark and twisted woods of Black River in search for the keys to their salvation. But as they search for a way to end the curse, a haunting melody echoes through the trees. And each lost soul must wonderโ€ฆ

Will they survive the night? Or will the Bell Witchโ€™s bloody harvest claim more victims?

Spooky! ๐Ÿ˜€ I have downloaded this one and it’s going into my massive TBR list. You can also buy the audiobook for just $7.49 when you purchase the Kindle edition, so that’s fun. I’ll probably do that later and listen to the book. ๐Ÿ˜€ I do so love my audiobooks.

I hope you liked my post! And I hope you go treat yourself to some free books! Support authors! Even when you download a book when it’s free, it’s still a huge help to the writer. And don’t forget to leave a review for them on Amazon and/or goodreads. ๐Ÿ˜€

Happy Reading! I’ll try to be back soon! Love, Lennie! โค

Two Book Reviews!

Good morning, my blog followers! Check it out! Second post in a week! Maybe I’ll get this thing back on track. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m going to try to be all positive about it. โค I hope everyone is doing okay and staying healthy with all the covid-19 and social isolation stuff.

I’m bored of just going to work and home, I miss going to see my mom and sister, and I’ve been struggling very drepressed days. But overall, I’m doing okay. I’ve been playing Dungeons and Dragons with my sister and some of her friends with internet calls. It’s been fun so far, and I think it’s helping with the social part.

Also, I get to pretend I’m a really big half-orc who doesn’t like to fight, but will totally destroy monsters if they are mean to his sister. Or his pet squirrel. lol. Fun stuff.

Anyway! Let’s move on to today’s post…. book reviews! I’ve read a couple of good short stories, so I thought I’d share about them with you all! ๐Ÿ™‚

My first review is of a neat little flash fiction story:

Treehouse by J. Sharpe

A treehouse isnโ€™t always a safe place to play!

When Grace is driving on the highway with two screaming eight-year-olds in the back seat, sheโ€™s frustrated to say the least. So when she sees a sign for a Rest Area, sheโ€™s more than happy to pull over. The boys see the treehouse first. And when they climb its ladder, itโ€™s already too late.
Then the screaming begins.

Treehouse is a short suspense/horror story. An introduction to the works of award nominee and bestselling author J. Sharpe.

Download the book now, if you dare.

โค Bonus points! It’s free! โค Free books is always something I can get behind. ๐Ÿ™‚

My rating: 4 stars!

And my review:

I really enjoyed this little story. ๐Ÿ™‚ A great little example of flash fiction. Just long enough to enjoy the story and to want to read more books by J. Sharpe. I highly recommend. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s not a very big review, but it’s honest! ๐Ÿ™‚

And my other book is a collection of flash fiction! One of my favorite things to read. And write! So when I find them for free, I’ll have to get them and give them a try. Yep! This one is FREE too!

20 Dark, Scary and Sad Short Stories by A.A. Wray

Blurb: 20 dark, scary and sad short stories to scare you, depress you and make you feel unsettled inside.

My rating: 3 stars

And my review:

Good stories

Like almost any collection of stories, these were hit and miss. Some where awesome. Some were good. And some I just didn’t get or like. But overall, it was a nice collection of stories. A good pick for a lover of flash fiction.

I hope you all check out these two books. ๐Ÿ™‚ Both are nice, quick reads, and great for us horror lovers.

I’ll try and post again tomorrow, but no promises, lol. We know I’m not great with that. I’m working on a bind up collection of my first 3 holiday horror stories, to be released this weekend, and I’m working on my next Holiday Horrors installement: The Mad Mother. And the next Spooky Shorts is coming up soon, so keep an eye out for updates here, or follow me on Amazon and Goodreads.

Happy Reading, everyone! Stay healthy and safe! Love, Lennie! โค

Sunday Author Spotlight!

It’s Sunday! โค That means, it’s time for a writer spotlight. ๐Ÿ™‚

I know, I didn’t do one yesterday, and I like to try and do them on both Saturday and Sunday. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ But I didn’t have an author picked out. Sad. I have one today though! So happy! ๐Ÿ™‚

Today’s pick is the author of the story I’m currently listening too in Audible. And they are…

Anthony Del Col

๐Ÿ™‚ According to what’s up on his Goodreads page (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3464023.Anthony_Del_Col) he seems to do mostly comic books and graphic novels. Which is very cool! I love the occasional graphic novel, comic, and of course, manga in among my audiobook reading and short stories. But I’m so glad he did the audiobook, because it’s freaking amazing. ‘

Here’s his Author Bio from over on Goodreads. ๐Ÿ™‚ He’s got a pretty impressive collection of jobs. Writing comics, audibooks, producing films, and even being a manager for pop stars. You go, dude!

Anthony Del Col is the co-creator and co-writer of the acclaimed IDW Publishing series KILL SHAKESPEARE, which has been nominated for Harvey and Joe Shuster Awards. The series has also been adapted into a stage show, board game and is currently in development for television with Universal Cable Productions. He is also the writer or co-writer of ASSASSIN’S CREED, ASSASSIN’S CREED: ORIGINS (Titan) and the neo-noir reboot NANCY DREW & THE HARDY BOYS: THE BIG LIE (Dynamite Comics). His first audio drama, UNHEARD: THE STORY OF ANNA WINSLOW, a found footage thriller, debuted at #1 on Audible in the US and the UK in late 2017.

His latest book, the controversial WWII graphic novel SON OF HITLER, debuted in late-June 2018 with Image Comics, exploring the legend of Adolf Hitler’s illegitimate son. Publishers Weekly called it a “firecracker espionage tale” while NPR exclaimed, “few war stories are this much fun.”

Del Col’s next book is LUKE CAGE: EVERYMAN (Marvel Comics), debuting digitally in August, 2018 and will be released in late-2018.

In addition, Del Col has been involved in music, film and television industries, most notably as the producer of two feature films and serving as a manager for international pop star Nelly Furtado.

Though a proud Canadian, Del Col lives in Brooklyn with his amazing wife Lisa.

I’m very impressed! (I wonder when he relaxes, lol)

Now! Let’s look at some of his books! Like the one I’m reading:

Unheard: The Story of Anna Winslow

36365107. sx318

Love that cover! Blurb for it!

University student Anna Winslow has gone missing. The circumstances of her disappearance are far from ordinary, a fact that only fellow student Melissa Lopez appears to appreciate. Motivated by an unexplained and disturbing voicemail message from Anna on the night of her disappearance, Melissa’s curiosity quickly turns into a deeper investigation, an obsession even, which she chronicles as a regular podcast – the very recordings that you are about to listen to. She quickly discovers that Anna was a loner with hearing difficulties and had disappeared for a week earlier in the year, only to return with perfect hearing, but with increasingly unstable behavior.

I got this one for free from audible (Maybe it’s free for members?) and it is so great. I’ve found so many great books and stories for free on audible. It’s my favorite app ever! I listened to about half of it while I was at work this morning. I stock at a store before it opens a few days a week, so I can listen to my audiobooks while I work. I love it. And I’m loving unheard.

I’m serious. I’ve gotten, like, legit chills listening to this. Its so creepy and formatted so perfectly. I can NOT wait to share the review with ya’ll! ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay! Now that I’m done gushing about my current read, let’s look at another one of his books. I’ll pick….

Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys: The Big Lie

this one! Because I like the cover, and it just looks like fun! โค

This book looks so pretty! And it sounds so awesome sauce! Here’s it’s blurb. It even comes with nifty little reviews of the book. I approve. ๐Ÿ™‚

A Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mystery unlike any other youโ€™ve ever read! When the teenage brothers Frank and Joe Hardy are accused of the murder of their father โ€“ a detective in the small resort town of Bayport โ€“ they must team up with Nancy Drew to prove their innocence (and find the real guilty party in the process) in a twisting noir tale, complete with double-crosses, deceit, and dames. Writer Anthony Del Col (Assassinโ€™s Creed, Kill Shakespeare) and artist Werther Dellโ€™Edera (Batman: Detective Comics, House of Mystery) bring the iconic teen detectives into the modern age, and redefine noir for a new generation of readers!

“Thereโ€™s murder. Thereโ€™s mystery. Thereโ€™s danger. Most of all, thereโ€™s abundant joy in the reading.” โ€“ BiffBamPop

โ€œMystery fans, fans of the original series, and fans of Hope Larson and Brittney Williamsโ€™ Goldie Vance will likely enjoy Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys for its vintage charm, amped-up drama, and superb art.โ€ โ€“ Graphic Policy

โ€œThis might be the best โ€˜modernโ€™ approach to updating a franchise like this that Iโ€™ve seen. It works on every level and still fully embraces the heart of who they are.โ€ โ€“ readingwithaflightring.com

“Anthony Del Colโ€™s script is devious, pushing the plot surreptitiously while peeling back layer after layer of characterization… An enormously pleasant surprise. โ€“ CBR

Thanks for reading today’s little author spotlight. ๐Ÿ™‚ โค I hope you liked it. I had fun writing it, since I’m reading “Unheard”. Or is it listening? lol. Either way, I’m loving it. And it’s a horror story. Extra points for me, a horror writer, when I read a horror story.

Happy Reading, everyone! I’ll try and be back tomorrow! Love Lennie! โค

Review of Full Tilt by Neal Shusterman

So! It’s thursday. Time for a book!

Today, we are looking at Full Tilt, just like my title says. Here’s the cover of the book!

how do ya’ll feel about Mr. Neal Shusterman? Have you heard of him? He’s pretty popular in the young adult world. Especially in science fiction. He wrote Dry and Scythe. And The unwind series and The Skinjackers Trilogy. And the Star Shard series. ๐Ÿ™‚ I fearing LOVE unwind and Skinjackers. Those are two of my favorite young adults series.

So, when I saw that one of his books was for sale on audible, I instantly snatched it up. It was horror. it was young adult. It And it was for sale. I had to have it. Especially since I’m going to a book festival in March where Neal will be! So stoked. Going to get signed books and see lots of my favorite authors in person! Hopefully I’ll get to get a few of my books personalized and tell the authors how much I like their stories. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway! Had to have full tilt. ๐Ÿ™‚

here’s the blurb for the book!

Sixteen-year-old Blake and his younger brother, Quinn, are exact opposites. Blake is the responsible member of the family. He constantly has to keep an eye on the fearless Quinn, whose thrill-seeking sometimes goes too far. But the stakes get higher when Blake has to chase Quinn into a bizarre phantom carnival that traps its customers forever.

In order to escape, Blake must survive seven deadly rides by dawn, each of which represents a deep, personal fear — from a carousel of stampeding animals to a hall of mirrors that changes people into their deformed reflections. Blake ultimately has to face up to a horrible secret from his own past to save himself and his brother — that is, if the carnival doesn’t claim their souls first!

It’s a really, really cool idea.

But when I read/listened to it…. I was really disappointed. It wasn’t nearly as good as his later books. You can really tell that this one is an early book. I mean, it’s just not as well executed. Does that make sense? If you’ve read stuff like Scythe and Unwind, then read this one… You can just tell how far the author has come as a writer.

My rating for Full tilt is…

2 stars

I know. I wish I could have given it more. I really, really do. But it just wouldn’t feel right too me. I try to find good in everything I read, even the stuff I wasn’t a huge fan of. And full tilt totally had its moments. It just wasn’t my favorite. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Here’s my review I shared over on Goodreads for it.

It wasn’t my favorite book by Neal shusterman, but it had its moments. In fact, I really liked the last 3rd or so of the book. But the middle part was sort of dull. And it wasn’t nearly as well written as some of his later works. This one felt… Kinda awkward. And like it was trying to hard. Like, it was dumbing things down and explaining them too much.

Teens aren’t dumb. You don’t have to hit them over the head with a message to make them get it, and that’s basically what this book felt like to me.

Does that make sense? It might be worth a read for big fans of his other works who want to read as much as they can by him. But if your looking into Neal’s stuff for the first time, I’d go for his other stuff. Skinjackers, sythe, and the unwind series are all well worth the reads.

Did my review make sense? lol. I hope so. I tried.

It did have a few good parts, and that’s what saved it from a one star rating. I hate giving things one stars. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ But the good parts weren’t enough to bump it up to a 3. sigh.

Maybe give it a go if you see it at a good price a used bookstore or on amazon. I saw hardback copies for like $2 there. But I wouldn’t go to far out of my way to try it if I were ya’ll. But you should totally try his other books! ๐Ÿ™‚ Skinjackers is best!

I’ll try and be back tomorrow with a free book friday! Happy Reading, everyone! Love Lennie! โค

Tuesday Review: Ghost Camera by Darcy Coates

Omg. Omg. Omg. This book I just read, ya’ll… It was amazing. โค I love Darcy Coates! โค

Hey, readers! I had a very productive morning this morning! ๐Ÿ˜€ โค I went to my early morning stocking job. Which means… Audiobooks! โค I love that I get to read while I work. So, this mornings pick was…

Ghost Camera by Darcy Coates

When Jenine finds an abandoned camera in a lighthouse, she takes a photo for fun. But there’s something very, very wrong with the picture: it contains ghosts.

Jenine and her best friend, Bree, realise the camera is capable of capturing the dead. But with each new photo taken, the spectres become more aware and more alert, and begin following the friends. Desperate, Jenine seeks the help of a paranormal researcher. He only has bad news, though: they’ve meddled with something far beyond their control, and the ghosts won’t stop… not until Jenine and Bree are dead.

This book, ya’ll… I loved it. Seriously loved it!

5 stars!

This is the exact kind of horror story I can get behind. Short. Creepy. Suspenseful. Just a few characters I can love right away. And just all around perfect. It’s a short little novella. Around 120-130 pages or about a 2 hour audiobook. And it’s just perfect. As a writer of short horror stories and novellas (just a couple of short novels for me! :D) This is a absolutely perfect book for me. โค

I loved the characters, and the story was awesome. Also, our main character has 3 cats. โค โค โค How can I not love that? I have a cat of my own and I love him, even if he is a little asshole half the time. Seriously. He doesn’t understand how much it hurts when he tries to play fight. ugh. Nothing is more irritating that sitting here minding my own business and suddenly having claws digging into my arm. Anyone have any advice on how to get him to knock it off?

Anyway! Back to the book review!

I got legit chills while listening to this. Especially when the ghosts would touch the main character or appear in the pictures? I was so creeped out. That was some good stuff right there. You know a book is good when it creeps out a horror writer. ๐Ÿ˜€ โค

It was wonderful. I need this book in a physical copy. It needs to be on my bookshelf with my other horror books. But it’s $13! ugh! I’m gonna have to wait on it. But I need it! adulting is hard!

anyway! I highly recommend! Perfect for horror fans looking for a novella.

๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks for reading! I’ll try to get a writing update tomorrow. ๐Ÿ˜€ I had a very productive writing day yesterday, so I’ve got something special to share with ya’ll. ๐Ÿ˜€ Happy Reading! Love, Lennie! โค

In the Heart of the Fire by Dean Koontz!

Hello, everyone! How’s everyone doing? I hope everyone is well, and having lots of awesome bookish adventures! I’m doing pretty good this week! I’ve finished lots of books/stories already this week. I’ve eaten healthy today. I went to work, and I even went to the gym for half an hour! I love using the treadmills there. I watch movies, TV and get a bit of exercise. lol. I walk now, but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to actually run someday.

Wouldn’t that be neat? ๐Ÿ˜€

Anyway! Review Time!

Do I have any Dean Koontz fans out there? I hope so, because I have something special for you then. ๐Ÿ˜€ A review of his first story in his new Nameless series. ๐Ÿ˜€

Blurb of the series from it’s Amazon page!

If our memories make us who we are, who is a man without any? Nameless has only a gun, missions from a shadowy agency, and one dead aim: dispense justice when the law fails. As he moves from town to town, driven by splintered visions of the past and future, he’s headed toward the ultimate confrontation in this propulsive series of short thrillers by #1ย New York Timesย bestselling author Dean Koontz.

As of right now, this wonderful little gem is the number one seller in the Kindle store. Very impressive, if you ask me. ๐Ÿ˜€ Good for you, Dean. Good for you! Cause, seriously, he deserves it. This is totally worth a read.

blurb for book one!

A bloodthirsty sheriff is terrorizing a small Texas town where justice has been buried with his victims. Until Nameless arrivesโ€”a vigilante whose past is a mystery and whose future is written in blood.

Anyone who crosses Sheriff Russell Soakes is dead, missing, or warned. One of them is a single mother trying to protect her children but bracing herself for the worst. Nameless fears the outcome. Heโ€™s seen it in his visions. Now itโ€™s time to teach the depraved Soakes a lesson in fear. But in turning predators into prey, will Nameless unearth a few secrets of his own?

From #1ย New York Timesย bestselling author Dean Koontz comesย In the Heart of the Fire, part ofย Nameless, a riveting collection of short stories about a vigilante nomad, stripped of his memories and commissioned to kill. Follow him in each story, which can be read or listened to in a single sitting.

So! What did I think of this book?

5 stars!

Here’s my reivew. ๐Ÿ˜€ I also shared it to my Goodreads account.

Wow! This was very fun! I downloaded it for free thanks to my amazon prime membership. Yay, Prime reading! ๐Ÿ˜€ It was very much worth a read. ๐Ÿ˜€

We follow our main character, Nameless, as he works with a mysterious organization to bring out the truth (justice) to murderers who are projected by money and/or the law. There are 6 short stories in this series, each telling a different adventure of Nameless.

It’s an awesome thriller concept, and it worked very well. In this first story, Nameless works against a small-town sheriff who is just the worst. It was such a great story, and the narrator for the audible version was great. Especially when he did the Deputy’s voice.

I listened to several of these short stories this morning while I was at my stocking job at Dollar Tree. (I’m so glad I have a job that lets me listen to books while I work!) It made my shift so much more fun. ๐Ÿ˜€ I highly recommend if you like thrillers, short stories, and of course, Audiobooks. ๐Ÿ˜€

LOVE me some audiobooks!

๐Ÿ˜€ Ya’ll should totally give this series I try. I’m already up to book 4 and it’s awesome! โค All the books are free for Kindle Unlimited members and to Prime members. The prime members (like myself. :D) can even listen to the audible version. One of my favorite ways to read. lol. you know, in case you all didn’t know already. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for reading my little post, everyone! I’ll try and be back tomorrow with a writing update. I know I haven’t published anything this month. Ugh. I’ve been busy with Nanowrimo and some other stuff, so not much has gotten ready for publishing yet, but I’m hoping to have something soon, I promise!

Happy Reading! Love, Lennie! โค

Sunday Author Spotlight!

I’ve got several of her books in print and tons of them in Kindle version. ๐Ÿ˜€ I really need to get caught up on all my reading! lol. It’s a new week, so no time like the present, right? ;D

Review of Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill

Hi, guys! ๐Ÿ˜€ Book review time! ๐Ÿ˜€ โค I just finished reading Heart-Shaped Box and I wanted to share my thoughts on it with you! ๐Ÿ˜€

what’s my rating?

5 stars!

here’s the review I shared over on Goodreads!

This was awesome! ๐Ÿ˜€ I loved Judas and Mary Beth. Both were great characters. And the dogs! Gotta love the dogs. And the ghost? Perfectly awful! ๐Ÿ˜€

The writing was strong and very descriptive. I loved it. I listened to this novel, as I do with so, so many of my books. ๐Ÿ˜€ And the narrator really brought the story to life. I got literal chills listening to this. I really liked the story Mary Beth told about seeing the little ghost girl.

The story was great, and I highly recommend it. Perfect Halloween reading. Or listening. The audiobook is totally worth the investment! ๐Ÿ˜€

Here’s the link if you want to check the book out! ๐Ÿ˜€

pretty cover time! โค (It’s also a link, so ya’ll can buy it, if you want. And ya’ll should TOTALLY buy it!)

Sacrifice Under the Virgin Moon by [Austin, Alan]

Isn’t is gorgous!? I love it! ๐Ÿ˜€

I got an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review. ๐Ÿ˜€ And I loved it so much that I’m totally going to buy myself a paperback edition when it’s available. (I LOVE me some physical books!)

So! What did I think of it? I loved it! Seriously, I loved it. I stayed up way too late reading this one. I regret nothing!

๐Ÿ˜€ “Sacrifice Under the Virgin Moon,” tells the story of a village trapped under the thumb of a terrifying monster. A monster that demands the sacrifice of a virgin woman every three months or so. And if they don’t offer them to the monster? Or if the woman lies about being “pure”? Ya’ll better watch out!

Cause scary, violent stuff is totally gonna happen! >:D

The story is awesomely creepy, taking place in an very isolated village surrounded by woods. (reminded me a bit of that scary movie, “The Witch”) Sprinkled in with plenty of sexy fun time scenes with several different characters, this book is so much fun. I liked the different points of view in the book, so we can see whats going on with several different villagers. And I really liked the romance that was in the book too. ๐Ÿ˜€ adds something just a tad sweet and fluffy to enjoy with the scary intensity of the rest of the story.

I HIGHLY recommend this book if you like erotica stories and horror stories. Also, if you’ve read and liked Alan Austin’s other stories. ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for reading my review! ๐Ÿ˜€ I’ll try and be back soon with an update on my books and writing! ๐Ÿ˜€ โค Happy Reading! Love, Lennie!
