FREE Book!

Hello, everyone! I am so sorry, I haven’t posted anything for a couple of days. My depression reared its ugly head and I couldn’t bring myself to do anything productive. 😦

It doesn’t happen as much as it used to. (thank the universe for good meds and a good doctor.) But when it does, I feel like shit. I just want to hide and stared at the TV and do nothing. Except eat, but at least I didn’t eat any junk food yesterday. Proud of myself for that little victory.

I don’t even want to read when I feel depressed. Which, is kinda a problem for a gal who wants to write and read as her career.

Don’t worry though! I’m feeling better now. πŸ˜€ My spells aren’t nearly as bad as they used to. Now it’s just a day or two of funk before I feel normal again. Not like the weeks of awful feeling I used to get when First got depressed. Again, thank the universe for meds and docs. ❀

I’m good now! But! since I haven’t done crap for the past couple of days, I don’t have any reviews for you. 😦 sad face!

But! I do have a FREE book I can share with you!

I managed to finish up edits on a story for my romance pen name and get it submitted on Saturday night before the funk hit. πŸ˜€ It’s live now! And…

It’s FREE! πŸ˜€ ❀ πŸ˜€ ❀ πŸ˜€ ❀ πŸ˜€ ❀

New Spirit Finder Files Story is LIVE!!! :D

The Summoning of the Soul Stealer (Spirit Finder Files Book 0) by [Grace, Lennie]

What do you guys think of the cover? Not to shabby for images from KDP’s image gallery. πŸ˜€ Some day, I’ll be able to afford to buy professionally made covers. Until then I’ll be using the royalty free images from KDP and my own limited photography and Photoshop skills. (I think Tiny Terror’s cover has turned out the best so far. :D)

Anyway! I loved writing book one so much, I wanted to keep writing in the world. πŸ˜€ So! Here’s a 11,000 word short story set before the Shadow in the Swing. It tells you a little bit more about the Being! It’s pretty fun if I do say so myself. πŸ˜€

I’m also working on another novel in the series. my working title is The Child From the Closet and will tell how Joe and Nathen started their Spirit Finders group. pretty cool, huh?

Anyway. make sure you get this new one out!

Happy Reading!

Writing Update!

Hey, my blog followers! πŸ˜€ I’ve got 10 at the time of this update, and I couldn’t be happier! I hope ya’ll are enjoying my little book reviews and talks about writing. I know I have fun writing them. I started this blog because it seemed like a neat way to connect with and share my rambling thoughts with other readers and writers. πŸ˜€ And I really wanted my own website. But, finances being what they are, I can’t exactly afford to be paying to build one and stuff like that. SO! Free blog it is.

Oh well! Maybe someday I’ll get something a bit more professional looking. I’m dream write now is to become a full time write. Like, actually make enough money to contribute to my family’s finances without having to go to day jobs.

I’m not making much right now, but I’m coming along! πŸ˜€ I should be getting my latest check from Amazon soon and it’s a bit bigger than last months. πŸ˜€ and the next couple after that are getting progressively bigger. πŸ˜€ Not that anyone actually needs to know my $ business or anything, but my check for June should be over $20. I know, I know. It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s the best month I’ve had so far! And I’m getting decent reviews on my stories. πŸ˜€

I’m on my way! If I’m blessed enough to keep getting more readers/customers, my dream just might become reality! One can only hope!

And put in hard work. πŸ˜€ Can’t forget that! I’m a very firm believer in the whole “Hard work always pays off” thing. πŸ˜€

Anyway! I rambled enough! let’s get to my point. So, I know it’s later than I promised, but I’m finally given ya’ll and update on my writing. Sorry for the wait, lol. Life just gets in the way sometimes.

Last week, I read this fascinating little Kindle book called “Writing a Book so a Week: How to write quick books under the self-publishing Model” it’s part of the “Write Free Book series” by Alex Foster. I highly recommend it. It has a lot of good advice on how to use outlines and focusing your attention. I found the book really inspiring.

So, I had a couple of days off after I read it. And I really wanted to give some of the suggestions the book had a try. It really underlined how hard it is for indie authors to make any kind of money with only one or two books.

Which is were the whole “Book a week” thing comes in. Basically, the book talks about training yourself to use outlines and simple focused (but still fun of course!) plots to produce, well, a book a week. πŸ˜€ it reminds the reading that quantity AND quality are key.

Here are some of my favorite bits from the book:

If you want to be profitable, you must create quality in quantity.

Persistent writers who push through are the ones who make it.

You need to be consistent and persistent.

The book a week model scales well over time. There is no cheat or easy way.

Success as a Kindle writing is a long-term mindset. The goal is to sell high-quality books consistently over time.

And! My very favorite out of all the quotes I liked is this one:

There is a difference between a book written in a week and a book that takes months/years. A short, direct and to the point book completed in a week isn’t necessarily less valuable or less important than a 300-page, slaved over book that took a year.

That one is particularly important to me, since I believe what’s important is that the readers enjoy the books they read, not how long it took someone to write it. What’s it matter how long it took me to write something as long as I’m proud of it, worked hard on it, and someone somewhere out there in the world enjoyed it?

So! How’d my writing experiment go?

Well, I don’t know if I can write a whole full-length novel in a week, especially when you consider how long the editing part takes. But I think I can learn to reduce the time it takes to write a novel. πŸ˜€ and I can certainly get some short stories and novellas written in a week. the first drafts anyway! Editing it and making it ready for readers might take longer.

So! like the book said, first I focused on making an outline for a new story. then, I started writing. And… I had a really, really productive few days. πŸ˜€ I got out around 10,000 in just a couple of days in one story, a second novel in my Spirit Finders Files series. I added around 3,000 words to a short story and finished the second draft of it. And I have another outline for my latest novella ready to go so I can finish that first draft and 6,000 words started on that one.

Seriously! I feel majorly productive. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ proud of me! lol. ❀

but seriously!

I learned a lot from my writing experiment, and from the book. I really did! I have so many stories I want to share with the world. And I want to be a full time writer. With this book’s advice, hard work, and that determination, persistence, and consistency, I think I can make it happen. πŸ˜€

here’s the link to it if any other writers want to check the book out. πŸ˜€ I really recommend you give it a read!

Happy Reading, Everyone! πŸ˜€

The Shadow in the Swing

MY FIRST NOVEL!!!! πŸ˜€ I’m so excited!!!!

This scary story, began life as a challenge to myself to see if I could finally write a whole novel. Not a short story, novella, or a fanfic. (I’ve written some really long fanfics, but those will never see the light of day!) I wanted to write a whole novel, something between about 40,000 words to 50,000 words.  It took much longer than I thought it would, but I’m really proud of myself. Roughly 47,500 words of spooky fun!

This novel became so much more than I first planned. The working tile was The Empty Swing. At first, I was set on it being a standalone book. But as I continued to work on it, I saw that this was only the beginning. I realized that Storm and London’s supernatural experiences were just one case out of many that the Spirit Finders investigated.

As I continued to work on this novel, questions kept popping up in my mind. Those questions, I realized, would make for some pretty cool, and hopefully, frighting stories!

That camping trip that Judy mentioned? What happened on it, and why was it so scary? Why did Nathen start the Spirit Finders? Where did Joe’s note come from? How did Ellen and Arnold learn they had gifts? What got Judy to join the club? How did the soul snatching demon get stuck in that park?

Those questions led to plans for more stories and books for my little group of ghost hunters. And so, Spirit Finders Files, was born! The Empty Swing became The Shadow in the Swing. Why the name change? Honestly? I just thought it sounded cooler. And I came up some titles for more the series and thought The Shadow in the Swing fit in better with them.

Keep on the look out for more books in the Spirit Finders Files series. These characters have captured my imagination, and they’re not letting go anytime soon.

Happy Reading!

Love, Lennie Grace.
