Review of Be Careful What You Wish For

Hey, everyone! I’m back with a brand new book review for you! No free books right now, so I’m doing a review instead. πŸ˜€

4 stars for this one!

here’s the cover!

27269951. sy475

And the blurb:

When David Patzpowski takes his breakfast at a motorway diner, he discovers the clientele to be a little on the strange side.

The story was free on Amazon. And it was only 11 pages. I automatically had to download it and give it a try.

For a gal who’s trying to juggle two jobs, writing & editing, a blog, and work on a debut story under a new pen name, I REALLY love me some tiny short stories.

I can finish a whole story while drinking my morning coffee and feel very accomplished by adding it to my goodreads reading challenge. πŸ˜€

plus, as a writer of lots of my own shorts, I’m particularly fond of scary short stories.

It was totally worth the free download! πŸ˜€ Short and Simple, but it packed a punch. It was entertaining with just a tad of creep factor, especially towards the end there. Our main character had a strong personality, and the writer managed to get a surprising amount of characterization and backstory into a very short tale.

highly impressed! πŸ˜€ ❀

I also highly recommend this story if you like short horror tales. I grabbed another one of the author’s stories while I was at it, so I’ll be reading that one really soon. πŸ˜€ Can’t wait!

❀ ❀ ❀

And for those of you who were paying close attention: yes! I am working on new stories for a new pen name. Lol. They’re going to be a rather big step away from my dark and spooky works under Lennie Grace. So I’ve decided to publish them under a new pen name. To help keep my own works more organized, and because I’ve read a few articles on how it’s a good idea. People simply scrowling through Amazon will be more likely to pick up books/stories from indie authors who focus on one or two genres verses one who jumps all over the place.

which makes sense you know? How interested who you be in reading, say, a cozy mystery by someone who usually publishes science fiction. You’d probably be a bit confused by the sudden change huh?

Lol. not that I’m doing cozy mysteries or science fiction. those were just examples. πŸ˜€ Don’t worry, guys! It won’t be a huge secert or anything. I’m sure I’ll post about it on here when I get my debut story back from editing.

And I’ll defiently be sharing links in my Facebook groups. (Gotta advertise somehow, right? dang, I wish I had more of a budget for promotion!) The different pen names are simply away to help me keep my works more organized. Also, I really like the name I picked out. It sounded pretty!

but I’m not telling you about my OTHER Pen name I have planned. That one WILL be a top secret. lol. Some of the stuff I have planned for the 3rd pen name are honestly a little embarrassing.

it’ll be fun trying to keep accounts seperate for all three. :/

Thanks for reading, everyone! I’ll be back tomorrow with an Author Spotlight! Happy Reading! Love, Lennie! ❀

I’m Back from Travels, Everyone!

Hello, my dear readers and followers! I’m up to almost 30 now! Isn’t that exciting? πŸ˜€ I think so! Anyway! So sorry I haven’t been posting on schedule. I flew to visit my sister for a few days, and I’m just now getting back into my normal writing, reading, and working routine.

Lol. Balancing all my stuff is hard! But, don’t worry! I’m working on it. I’ll have to work on scheduling posts so I don’t miss so many days! πŸ˜€

Also, My trip was fantastic! My sister lives near Detroit, which is only like 4 hours away from Chicago. So we drove over there, stayed the night and had a blast! We went to a famous park and saw a giant sculpture called The Cloudgate, but lots of people just call it the bean. πŸ˜€ We took a water taxi ride on one of the great lakes. My sister tried a chicago style hot dog and deep dish pizza. Because, it’s Chicago. It’s part of being a tourist! You have to try the food! It was great, she said. πŸ˜€ I’m vegan, so I couldn’t try the pizza or the hot dogs. But I did find a local vegan diner to try. πŸ˜€ I liked it. πŸ˜€ got a meatball sub, some potato salad & some dessert. All vegan. πŸ˜€

I live in a small city Oklahoma, so getting to get at an all vegan place is an extra special treat for me. lol. Us Okies are nearly as hip as the larger cities.

And my favorite part of my trip (besides seeing my favorite person on the planet!) was going to the famous Shedd Aqurium!

OMG! that was SO much fun! I know, weird for a vegan to like zoos and aquriums, but I love the conservation efforts they do, and how most of them have captive bred or rescue animals that can’t be released to the wild, because they’d have no idea what to do.

they had a great shark tank with black tipped reef sharks, sea otters, an octopus, penguins, all kinds of fish. (of course) little baby american alligators, river stingrays (those are so pretty!), sea lions. and my favorite….

Dolphins and Whales! ❀ ❀ ❀

I’m not even kidding. Pacific White Sided Dolpins, and Beluga Whales! πŸ˜€ Amazing! And so freaking pretty! They even had a baby whale! 150 pounds of pure aquatic adorableness.

the Whales and dolphins were great and I spent forever watching them just zoom around. We saw a show too! The dolphins did jumps and flips and waved to everyone It was great.

except for this one lady who decided to try and save a whole row of seat when there were hundreds of people with little kids trying to find a place to sit down to see the show. ugh! So rude.

Anyway, I had a really great time with my sister! πŸ˜€ ❀ Love you sweetie!

but, I got absolutely no writing done. I made one post while I was gone. lol. No writing or editing. Sorry guys! you’ll have to wait a bit longer for new stories.

I know! I suck! But, at least you got a fun post about sea critters, right? lol.

It’s all good though. πŸ˜€ I’m back home safe (and broke because I spent so much on fun stuff!) And I’m getting back to my normal routine! πŸ˜€

Probably won’t have a free book for you guys tomorrow, but I should be able to get a short review out instead. Still fun, yes?

I’m also hard at work on She Watches You Sleep. Hoping to have it out this weekend, but no promises! πŸ˜€ I’ll let you all know as soon as it’s live though.

Happy Reading, everyone! Thank’s for sticking around! Love you all! πŸ˜€ ❀

Love, Lennie!

Spotlight Saturday!

Hi, everyone! I’m up to 24 followers! πŸ˜€ So excited! Anyway, who’s ready for an author spotlight. I am! It won’t be to long today, I’m traveling/visiting my sister, so I’ve gotten abosolutely nothing done the last few days. I love my sister. πŸ˜€ She’s my favorite person on the whole planet, and I never get to see her. I’ve been giving all my attention to her instead of writing.

I regret nothing! πŸ˜€

But! I’m at least giving ya’ll a quick spotlight before we head out to do some fun stuff today. πŸ˜€

Writing Update

hey, everyone! I am so sorry! I worked all day yesterday and was so tired, I forgot to publish yesterday’s blog post. 😦 I suck! it’s late, but here it is! I’m really sorry, I missed yesterday, so today, I’m doing not just an update on my word count and stuff, but also sharing a bit of info on my writing process. πŸ˜€ that’s fun, right?

So hows my writing going?

Really Good.

πŸ˜€ I’ve reached the editing part of She Watches You Sleep. πŸ˜€ I think it might be my favorite part of my longer works. Since I write rather quickly (On a really good day, I can get up to 5k-7k in a day. on a GREAT day, I can do more), I tend to make a lot of mistakes in the first drafts. not just spelling and grammar, but also mistakes like eye colors changing, or repeating myself too much. :/ it’s just not as easy to keep everything together in a 35,000-40,000 word piece vs. a 5,000-10,000 word piece, you know what I mean?

So! I gotta fix it, and make that rough draft into something a lot more cohesive and readable.

That mean’s today, I’ll be heading over to the copy shop and printing out my (very) rough draft.

I’ll go over everything with my trusty little red pens and highlighters and sticky notes. I mark sentences I really love and want to keep, and make notes on which ones sound to awkward and need rewriting. I’ll fill it full of sticky notes to myself, telling me where I need more information, or maybe another little chapter put in, or if something needs taken out entirely. I’ll highlight bits and pieces I think need changing, like word choices. I’m really fond of the word creepy, so sometimes I use that one too much.

And the grammar & spelling. That always needs some work, no matter the length of the story! πŸ˜€

Any, once I finish all that, I head back over to the computer and change and add everything I need to. I’ll run it through grammarly and/or send it off to an editor, that depends on my editing budget.

I wish I could afford more than I do! I’d love to have everything professionally edited, proofread, and even beta reads would be great. but I simple don’t have to funds. ah, the joys of indie writing & minimum wage day jobs! Oh well! I do the best I can with what I have to work with. It’s all I can do. πŸ˜€

Once everything is fixed up, and I’ve made it the best i can be, I format it, give it a final read over to look for last minute errors and head over to Amazon for publishing. πŸ˜€

I’ve got Friday and Saturday off form both jobs (thank god!) So, I’ll be able to devote those two days to my writing and editing. I’m really excited! πŸ˜€

After this, I’ll be working on my second volume of Spooky Shorts, it’s set to come out next week. πŸ˜€ I’ll be doing a follow up story to Blood Moon in it, so that’ll be great. I’ve also got the outlines of the other two stories in it, but those will just have to be a surprise!

Sorry again that this update was late. oops! I’ll do better later. It’s only about 3 hours late, since’s its about 3 in the morning on Thursday when I’m sharing this, but still. Sorry! it’s been a busy week!

I’ll have a review up for you later today, I promise! Happy Reading, everyone! Love, Lennie!

Sunday Author Spotlight!

Hi, blog followers! πŸ˜€ ya’ll ready to see some info on another indie writer? I’m excited to share this post with you! Today’s writer is an author of horror/dark psychological thrillers! Just my cup of tea! πŸ˜€

So today’s author is….

Jim Ody!

I liked his name, so I picked him today’s post! πŸ˜€ & I can never say no to horror authors! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

So! here’s his author bio!

Jim was first published in an English School Textbook in 1987. He won a competition to draw a dog-walking machine. Having won an art competition the year before, he felt that at the age of eleven he had peaked and consequently retired from art.

For 10 years Jim wrote for a number of websites reviewing and interviewing bands in his own unique way, as well as contributing dark poems and comedic features.

He writes dark psychological/thrillers that have endings that you won’t see coming, and favours stories packed with wit. He has written four novels and over a dozen short-stories in various anthologies.

Jim has a very strange sense of humour and is often considered a little odd. When not writing he will be found playing the drums, watching football and eating chocolate. He lives with his long-suffering wife and three beautiful children in Swindon, Wiltshire UK.

Sounds like an interesting guy, huh? πŸ˜€ It’s okay if people think you’re odd, Jim! All us writers are a little odd! ;D

lets get a few of those covers up here, yes? πŸ˜€ here’s two of the short story collections were he’s got some of his works featured! πŸ˜€

Carnival Of Nightmares (Creepiest Show On Earth Book 2) by [Nave, Bradon, Clay, Chris P., Bergling, Christina, Lee, Erin, Ody, Jim, MacMillan, Joshua, Acerbo, Lisa, Smales, Rob, Sands, Samie, Longo, Stacey]
Campfire Tales: Crazy urban legends to burn your soul by [Schoen, Sara, Ody, Jim, Marin, Rena, Jaiyn, Lorah, Davis, Chelsi, Lee, Erin, Stanley, J. V. ]

And here’s the cover of one of his novels!

The Place That Never Existed by [Ody, Jim]

I’ve already added all of these to my “Want to Buy” list of books. It’s an ever growing Pile the size of Mt. Everest! πŸ˜€

here’s the blurb for Campfire Tales! Sounds awesome! & at only 159 pages, it’ll be a fast read, too! πŸ˜€ gotta love that!

They go bump in the night.
They live under your bed.
They sleep under the trees.
They are everywhere. Even in the places you swore were safe.
They are the urban legends who haunt us and make us feel alive all while fearing the afterlife.
Gather around the campfire for new tales of urban legends that will leave your heart racing and palms sweating for more…
Campfire Tales is a dark urban legends collection by bestselling and award winning authors who will leave you breathless.

I’m sharing a link below so ya’ll can check out more of his works over on Amazon!

Make sure and check his stuff out if you like horror! πŸ˜€ I know I’ll be reading some of his stuff soon! πŸ˜€ Happy Reading, everyone! πŸ˜€ Join me again tomorrow for reviews of the short stories I’m reading tomorrow!

Review For “Writing A Book A Week”

Writing a Book a Week by Alex Foster

In between my binge listen of the “Mountain Man” series, I picked this up. My dream is to write as a full-time job and make a decent living with it. I figured picking this up couldn’t hurt. especially since it seems that most indie authors need to produce a lot to get up a decent fanbase. :/ I got a long road ahead!

(I’m looking at you, Amy Cross! When I’m talking about producing a lot! over 100 books!)

It actually had some decent advice, so I’m glad I picked it up. It was well written, simplistic and easy to understand. I liked it.

I’m still not sure if I could actually write a long book in a week. Maybe a short novella if I really focus. But it’d definitely need a few rounds of editing afterward! /

This short little book has a lot of good advice I can take away from it. So that’s good. πŸ˜€ I can totally use the advice on outlining and focusing.

Recommended for all writers. Even if you just glance over it, it might help you. πŸ˜€

Happy Reading!

A Final Note!

I have a few days off of both of my jobs coming up. So, I’m think I’m going to hole up in my apartment like a little literary squirrel riding out the winter. I want to try and work on the second book in the “Spirit Finders Files.” I want to try out the advice in this book, see if it can really work. πŸ˜€ who knows. maybe I’ll get a decent first draft out of it.

Next tuesday’s blog post will be an update on my writing experiment. I’ll let you guys know how it went. Lol. Maybe I’ve unlocked the secret to self-publishing success in a random little free Kindle book.

Anyway! Happy Reading! Join me Thursday for another blog post. it’ll probably be a few reviews of the zombie books i’ve been reading. πŸ˜€

Love, Lennie!

Zombies On The Brain! >:D

Sorry about the bad pun. I had to. Okay, I’m not sorry. I regret nothing!

Anyway! Surprise blog post time!

So… I recently decided that writing a story about zombies might be really cool to try. πŸ˜€ For my writings so far, I’ve done:
-haunted objects
-crazy killers
-alien invasion

an end of the world featuring the walking dead seemed pretty horrifying! Don’t know if I’ll put it the next volume of Spooky Shorts or if it’ll be its own Novella yet. But I do know it will be fun!

I came up with a basic idea for a zombie story. No, I’m not giving out details yet! I want it to be a surprise!

I decided on a cool title. Also not giving out that either!

Then I realized something pretty darned important…. I don’t know a whole lot about zombies. lol. I’ve watched “Zombieland” one of my favorite horror comedy movies. “High school of the dead” is one of my favorite mangas and animes. I’ve read a couple of zombie books. the first two “Rot and Ruin” books and “Mountian Man: The prequel” but other then just those few things? yeah… zombies aren’t exactly a horror element I’m familiar with.

ghosts? of course! Seriously, I can’t tell you how many epsodies of “The Haunted” and “Dead Files” I’ve watched. mystery/thrillers? I listen to a lot of those on audiobook. I’m not good at guessing who done it, but I love going along for the ride. I adore movies and books about haunted houses.

but zombies? not so much.

I mean, I get the basic idea of them. infections, reanimated corpses. brains. shot to the head. but as a genre? not a lot i’ve read and watched.

Well! I’m not letting my lack of knowledge stop me! I spent my morning off work researching zombies TV shows, books, and movies. I want to watch and read a whole bunch of different ones, so I can get a better idea of stuff that’s common and uncommon in the genre.

I started on Hulu. πŸ˜€ I watched an episode of mythbusters about zombies. that was cool. according to them, axes work better than guns, to fight off hordes of zombies. less time to aim. you just swing and hope you hit the head.

Then I found a TON of free kindle books about zombies so I could start reading different authors takes on this classic horror/science fiction monster. I downloaded probably 20 or so short stories, novellas, and novels.

I’ve got a couple of different zombie books on my Audible App now, ready for listening.

And I’ve got plans to watch a couple of zombie TV shows on Hulu. Fear the Walking dead is on the top of the list.

I figure if I’m gonna try and write a story about the undead, I should see what other stories are out there first, right? See if I can come up with something fun.

Anyway! I hope you had fun reading this!

Happy Reading! Love, Lennie! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

p.s. if anyone has any good recommendations on zombie books, shows, or moives, let me know!
